An ostrich
is a tall and very unique bird. However it cannot fly. Instead of flying away
like other birds when danger comes it runs up to 50mph (miles per hour)! An
ostrich is a very cool bird. Instead of living alone the ostrich travels in HERDS. The leader of the herd is the DOMINANT MALE. The other females lay their eggs in the MAIN HENS nest. The
main hen takes day job covering the eggs. The dominant male takes night jobs
covering the eggs. Also, the ostrich is the biggest and heaviest bird in the
world. Females do not grow to be as big as the males but they are still
enormous. Once the JUVENILES hatch they are still under the protection of the herd. At around
six months at age the juveniles are almost adult size. The lions (the lions are
the main predator of the ostrich’s main predator) that attack the ostrich will
be waiting for a big surprise. BOOM!! OUCH! The lion will get kicked so hard it could die. Bad decision there lion.
As you know… Wait you might not. The ostrich defends itself by using their
legs in kickboxing. Like it said earlier in the text about the baby ostriches
the average size of the ostrich baby is the size of a full grown chicken! The
ostrich grows one foot a month. By the time it is grown it will be taller than
2 meters! They run up to 50 mph. Also, you should
know it can’t fly. It is to heavy. As you can see the ostrich is a very unique bird.
